IMAGES YOU NEED TO SEE

Over the years, I collected a number of images that I think are quite useful in understanding the assassination of President Kennedy. They are listed below, along with a description of each. To view the files that end with the ".mov" extension, you will need Quicktime (for Windows or Mac), which is a free download at the Apple website. The address is www.apple.com/Quicktime.

(If you are using MS Explorer on a PC, please be sure you have disabled the option "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". This is located under tools/Internet options/advanced/Multimedia)

4th-shot.jpg  This is a collage of images from the Zapruder film, showing Mrs. Kennedy's reactions following the explosive head wound at Z312-313. In December of 1963 Mrs. Kennedy described to reporter Theodore White, her view of brain and skull material being blown from her husband's head. But as these images demonstrate, Mrs. Kennedy was looking down and away from her husband continually, between the instant of the first head wound at Z312 and Z322. Her first opportunity to have seen what she described, came at Z323, the same instant that we see flaps of scalp in the right temple area rise into an ugly, distended oval. It was that second head shot that blew material back onto the trunk and more than 20 feet to the left and rear of the limousine.

arrests.gif This is a copy of an extremely important FBI report in which Laura McGee, the head archivist for the city of Dallas reported that critical arrest records which would have helped to corroborate John Elrod were hidden away and put under federal seal. These records were withheld, even from other law enforcement agencies and the HSCA federal investigation.
The same happened to the arrest records of the others who might also have been privy to events involving Lee Harvey Oswald in the jail that day. Not surprisingly, all records of these arrests and interviews of the suspects, likewise disappeared from the FBI's files. Read more about this critical case in the Fourth Tramp by Ray and Mary La Fontaine, or get their excellent book, Oswald Talked.

backhead.jpg (not for the squeamish) This is a collage of images taken from blowups of critical frames from the Zapruder film, following the fatal head wounds. It is easy to see that a vast amount of the back of the President's head has been blown away, and that what is left, was grotesquely mutilated. Ugly as these frames are, they should settle once and for all the question of whether a frontal shot occurred and blew out the upper rear of the President's head.

backofhead.jpg This is a blowup of frame Z-337, from Robert Groden's *The Killing of a President*. Taken from the original Zapruder film, this presents a much better image and resolution than other images I have posted. Look closely at the condition of the back of the President's head. There is no doubt at all that it has been extensively damgaged.

bennett.gif Special agent Glen Bennett was cited at length in Gerald Posner's Case Closed, in support of Posner's theory that there were only three shots fired that day, with the first two closer together than the last two. But Bennett was very specific in describing the final two shots he heard, coming after he turned from his right, to the front and toward the President. In blowups of the Altgens photo, taken at exactly the equivalent of Zapruder frame 255, it appears that Bennett is still looking to his right, as he was earlier. Bennett's face is a little ambiguous but look closely at his tie.

betzner.gif  Another classic photo taken at around Z186. This image gives us a good view of the agents in the followup car.

boswell.gif This extremely important drawing was made by autopsist, Dr. Thornton Boswell, the only man to measure the dimensions of the head wound, before the skull was reconstructed. Boswell measured the front-to-back dimension of the wound at 17 centimeters and also identified the 4 cm piece of skull that he later said was flown into Bethesda on the night of the autopsy. As we would expect, Boswell's measurements place a great deal of the wound in the back of the head.

bowers.gif Lee Bowers testified to hearing three gunshots after the limousine passed from his view, as the wall of the pergola came between him and the limo. This is an overhead photo of Dealey Plaza in which I have overlaid a line showing exactly where he lost sight of the President. As it turns out, that happened about a second prior to the shot at Zapruder frame 285. Like many other witnesses, Bowers did not hear the first firecracker-like sound and recalled the shots at Z285, 312 and 323. Be sure to check out the next file for further corroboration of that point.

bowers.mov This is a segment of an interview of Lee Bowers in which he talks about the timing of the shots and actually raps on the table to demonstrate the spacing. His demonstration suggests a timing that is uncannily close to that of shots fired at Z285, 312 and 323, with gaps of about 1.5 second and .5 seconds.

By the way, if anyone still has doubts about the gunshot at Z285, they should carefully study the simultaneous reactions of the limousine occupants, beginning about a third of a second after that frame. The files to look at are, shot.gif, shot2.gif and royducks.gif. The last of those zooms in on Roy Kellerman, whose reaction was probably the most definitive.

brehm285.gif This is a still from Zapruder frame 285 which makes it clear that the limousine passed directly in front of Charles Brehm at that instant. Brehm stated that he heard the first of three shots just as the limousine passed directly in front of him, just 15-20 feet away (It was 18 feet away at Z285). Standing a short distance west of him, Jean Hill would recall a flurry of shots beginning as the limousine was "almost" directly in front of her. To her left, Mary Moorman described 3-4 shots, "very close together".

connally_at_223.jpg This blowup from Zapruder frame 223 makes it clear that this was the frame in which Governor Connally was hit. As a large amount of blood, bone and tissue was expulsed from his chest wound, his tie was blown leftward and his jacket was blown open.

croft.gif This is a photo taken around Z160. It is frequently presented as evidence that the upper rear of Kennedy's jacket could have been bunched at the time he was hit in the back, which if true, would explain the difference in the locations of his back wound and the hole in his coat.

crowd.gif This is a very important though often overlooked photo taken during the Z220's. It illustrates the positions of key witnesses as well as the actions of the umbrella man and his dark-complected friend. Interestingly, it appears that Beverly Oliver (or whoever she was) was filming them rather than the President at that instant.

diagram.gif A diagram of Dealey Plaza illustrating a likely trajectory for the Z285 shot, which missed the President and went on to cause the curb damage near James Tague.

ducking.gif This images compares the positions of the witnesses riding in the Presidential limousine before and after they reacted to the excruciatingly loud gunshot at Z285.

headwounds.jpg A collage of Z-frames which makes it clear that much of the rear of the President's head was blown out, by Z335 (not for the squeamish).

id.gif Lee Harvey Oswald's military ID. Notice the highly unusual "cancellation stamp" on it, which was reported by Earl Palmer in Clinton Louisiana.

jackie.gif This is a very important blowup from the Zapruder film, which shows Mrs. Kennedy's actions immediately following the fatal head wounds. Let it run many times so that you can get a good feel for where her right hand was going as she reached back across the trunk. After she returned to her seat, she immediately stated, "I have my husband's brains in my hand.". When she arrived at Parkland hospital she handed the brain tissue over to Dr. Jenkins. Of course, Mrs. Kennedy had to have seen this tissue being blown from the President's head, or she would not have reached back to recover it.

jackie312.jpg A blowup from frame Z312 which makes it clear that Mrs. Kennedy was looking downward at that instant and not at her husband. She had just ducked in response to the gunshot at Z285.

jackienix.gif A blowup of a section of the Nix film which lets us study Jackie's actions from the south side of Elm St, up to the point where she disappears behind some bystanders. Once again, watch that right hand.

jbc.gif A short animation from the Zfilm which zooms in on Governor Connally during the Z220's. There is no doubt at all that he was hit no later than Z223.

latimer.gif A classic example of how ridiculous and desperate some "researchers" can be to prove their points. It's hard to imagine how many bullets and coats Dr. Latimer wasted in his efforts to support the Posner "lapel flip", but these images should make it clear that he totally misunderstood the nature of the bullet strike on Governor Connally.

latimer2.gif More of the same.

mapruby.gif A section of a Dallas street map showing straight line paths from Oswald's home, to the Tippit murder scene, to Jack Ruby's apt. (See newmap.gif also) Decide for yourself if it was just a coincidence that Oswald was on the shortest possible course to Ruby's place at the time of the Tippit murder.

moorman.mov Like countless others in Dealey plaza that day, Ms. Moorman confirmed the rapid flurry of shots at the end of the attack.

muchmore.gif These frames from the Muchmore film illustrate the extreme rapidity with which Mrs. Kennedy ducked in response to the Z285 shot. In fact, her head dropped more than 30 degrees during an eighteenth of a second between two frames of the film.

nellie.gif Nellie Connally testified that she heard one shot, turned to examine President Kennedy, and then heard two more shots. I posted this collage of blowups from the Zapruder frame in response to some rather pathetic claims that it was not really possible to determine when Mrs. Connally looked back at Kennedy. (See also theturn.gif)

newmap.gif This is a street map depicting the path that the Warren Commission determined Oswald probably walked to get to the Tippit scene. If correct, it also puts him on a direct course to Jack Ruby's apartment. After the murder, Oswald sharply changed course and headed toward the Texas theater.

rahn.gif Dr. Kennedy Rahn (Oceanographer and Posner supporter) has tried to promote the preposterous theory that a bullet fragment, exiting from the explosive head wound at Z-313, caused the lead smear on the Main St. curbing and James Tague's minor wound. After being challenged to support the physics of his theory he drastically changed his assessment of the angles and velocity of his hypothetical fragment. This image explains in detail, the evolution of his analysis.

retrieve.jpg A series of blownup stills from the Zapruder film, taken as Jackie reaches back across the trunk and retrieves the brain tissue. Notice that as she pulls her hand back, it is in an awkward upright position, rather than flush, on the trunk's surface. She is very obviously, protecting the tissue.

ruby.gif This one is worth watching a hundred times. It is a stabilized version of newsreel footage of the Oswald murder. As critics have contended for years, Oswald glances directly toward Jack Ruby and then quickly back toward the front, just before he was shot. Of course, if Oswald believed Ruby to be his accomplice, it makes sense that he would quickly look away from Ruby in order to avoid implicating him.

sbt-dal.gif A comparison of angles for the Z223 SBT shot from both the Daltex Daltex building and the alleged 6th floor sniper's nest in the depository.

silvia.mov A short segment from a television interview with Silvia Odio, in which she confidently declared that "Oswald was never alone" and that as late as the 1990's she was still terrified of appearing on television. It seems very probable that Odio, who told people close to her that she had seen Oswald on several occasions, knows a good deal more about the assassination than she has ever publicly admitted. For a detailed analysis of Odio, read the excellent book, Oswald Talked, by Ray and Mary La Fontaine.

theturn.gif See comments on nellie.gif

woodward.mov Reporter Mary Woodward's comments on the timing of the shots. Like Brehm, Jean Hill, and Mary Moorman, Woodward was extremely close to the limousine when the final shots were fired. Not surprisingly, her recollections matched almost perfectly with theirs, and with most others in Dealey Plaza that day.

Z224shot.gif A likely trajectory for the Z223 (was one frame off back then) shot that probably did pass through both Kennedy and Connally.

z323.gif These images show likely paths and trajectories for the final shot which blew matter back across the trunk and to the south, at or very near Z323.
