It was in early 1995 that I learned about the shot which I believe, settles the conspiracy question once and for all. And I learned about it from Nellie Connally, the wife of Texas governor John Connally, who rode in the limousine with the President that day.
At the time, I was about to give up my study of the case, convinced that no reliable conclusion could ever be reached on the conspiracy question. But as I was about to delete the research materials from my computer, I once again, ran my copy of the Medio Zapruder film and watched Mrs. Connally, feeling terribly sorry for the poor woman who like so many other witnesses, was (I thought) obviously confused about the gunshots she heard.
In Nellie’s case, she believed her husband was wounded shortly after JFK was, and after I could clearly see, that the governor exhibited obvious symptoms of distress. But as I watched the film again, focusing entirely on Mrs. Connally, it hit me. For the first time, I realized what happened. And I realized it was not the people who were there, who were confused.
In those early days, I didn’t know that Dr. Luis Alvarez, one of the most brilliant scientists of the 20th century had long before, discovered that Abraham Zapruder was startled by a loud noise at Zapruder frame 285 and in fact, my original analysis and articles suggested that the shot Mrs. Connally heard, was fired at frame 284. I was also unaware that the vast majority of witnesses in Dealey Plaza that day confirmed that the final shots were bunched closely together, which as I later discovered, was confirmed even in the Warren Commission reports.
What I realized immediately however, was that every nonvictim in the limousine reacted in almost perfect unison with Mrs. Connally, and within a third of a second following that excrutiatingly loud gunshot. It startled the driver, Bill Greer, who in his panic, accidentally caused the limo to slow down, and it provoked Clint Hill to leap from the running board of the followup car, just before the explosive headshot was fired.
As she glanced briefly at her husband, Mrs. Connally simply did not realize that he was wounded at the same time the President was, because he had turned his back to her and as he twisted and writhed in agony, she thought he was looking back to check on President Kennedy. So, when she heard the next shot she understandably, thought it was the one that wounded the Governor.
Thanks to Mrs. Connally, it became clear that not only were the vast majority of witnesses in Dealey Plaza correct about the spacing of three of the shots, but that a single assassin could not have carried out the attack alone. Both the FBI and years later, the HSCA confirmed that even the top experts could not aim and fire the Mannlicher Carcano rifle quickly enough to get off two shots within that time span. You can see my video on this subject, as well as additional evidence and analysis, here.
In the years since, I have learned a great deal more about this terrible crime and I will be sharing that with you, as well - both here and at my Youtube account - bobharris77.
